New Pants

As part of my late-winter-get-ready-for-spring purging, I tackled my five littlest ones' closet.  They all share one closet that was built into our new laundry room...rods for hanging things on one side and shelves on the other. They each have one shelf and a basket for socks and underwear.  Everything five little ones need for clothing is all in one closet in the same room as the washer and dryer.  I love our new system, and it really helps me keep track of the little ones' clothes and keep them to a minimum.  Over the course of the winter, though, they have outgrown quite a few items, so I decided it was a good time to pass on what we didn't need and make a few things that we do need.  After cleaning out the closest, I found that Little #9 only had one pair of pants that still fit her.  Although she loves to wear dresses, it's nice to have an extra warm layer to tuck under them, especially on chilly days like today.  I pulled out my favorite pants pattern, Anna Maria Horner's reversible Quick Change Trousers, found in Handmade Beginnings. Here are three I made for one of my little men a while ago.
I love the pink fabric with white elephants.  I purchased it quite a while ago on etsy and have been saving it for just the right project...the elephants are Little #9's favorite too.  The butterfly fabric was a remnant from a dress made for Little #6 a few years ago.  The pants sewed up quickly, both were done in two hours...I like projects like that these days.  Little #9 couldn't wait to wear them and had to embellish with a tutu and a big flower in her hair.

The next items on my list of sewing are a few spring dresses and tops.  I have been drooling over the Citronille patterns, especially MarieSuzanneSelma, and Solveig.  I love the simple, classic lines of these French patterns, and the possibilities are really quite endless.  I may just have to take the plunge and order a few.

Linking up with Nicole.

  1. Aww, she is so cute! Those pants are wonderful. I am filled with Great Hope that I will get some sewing done by next week. We have officially begun spring cleaning, and today I will be sorting through fabric, setting aside those projects I hope to get to. We'll see. Seems as though the thing I plan to do is the thing that doesn't get done! The Citronelle patterns are adorable!

  3. Really cute - love the butterfly corduroy. Cats just always want to be in the center of attention don't they!

  5. They are so cute! Oh, I wish I could sew better. I think part of my frustration is my cheap sewing machine. It always jams and does other weird things. My daughter's sewing teacher told me that price really does make a difference in the world of sewing machines. My daughter only has an entry-level, beginner's Brother sewing machine as well, and I've noticed that hers jams up at times as well. What kind of sewing machine do you use?

    1. I use a fairly basic Janome (model 11590). It is simple, not a lot of bells and whistles, but it is heavy duty. I love it. I have had it for three years now, and I have not had any issues with it.

    2. AMBER- I did not put out the $$ for a fancy machine. I have a pretty basic Singer that I've been using for 10+years. I get it cleaned and oiled and it has many miles on it. The last time, I was afraid it was a goner. They told me that you must use your machine. If it sits, you get other issues. My daughter also has a cheap machine, but it's good for what a teen used it for and beyond. The more stuff on it, the more to go wrong. Maybe yours just needs a good cleaning. My sister had moved 4or more times and not used her machine and then it wouldn't work. I fussed with it a bit and figured out that several knobs had been turned and the tension was totally messed up and after some turning and practicing and reading the book, it works fine. Don't give up too soon!!

  7. I love the citronelle patterns, too! My youngest baby girl (now 3) would look adorable in them. Maybe this spring ...

  8. I made a couple of pair of shorts for my kids as littles. One fabric, I made matching cow-jumps-over-the- moon blue fabric for the oldest and his friend and they wore them all the time!! Babies are grown, but we still make our own flannel pj bottoms to lounge in that are just the right size and length!
The fabric is so cute! Today I was wishing for some warm corduroy pants to wear!

  11. These are so cute. I love little number 9's sense of style. The patterns look so cute and remind me of dressing up doll clothes. Sorting things out I recently found the pattern for little all in one jumper's style dungarees that my daughter lived in when she was the same age. Her favourite had babushka dolls printed on the fabric. I miss making lovely little things for her.
