A Sweater and a Very Good Book

Lately knitting has taken a back seat to sewing.  Working with fresh, springy fabrics, creating items to be worn and used during the warmer seasons simply seems more appealing at the moment. I go through such phases with my crafting...knitting in fall and winter and sewing in the spring...it's the same every year.  I do, however, always have a knitting project on hand, even in the summer, for rainy afternoons spent on the porch.  Something about knitting while listenig to the pitter patter of rain is so very soothing. The last few weeks I have been working on quilts, summer nighties and even a few things for myself, and I can't wait to share those items with you. I, however, have been forcing myself to work on this sweater for Little #8, which will be very useful once the weather warms a bit. This wool sweater, with its adorable hood, will be perfect for the breezy days of spring when it's too warm for a winter jacket but not warm enough for shirt sleeves.  I am on the home stretch, really. The front and back panels and sleeves are complete.  All that remains is sewing the pieces together and knitting the hood.  I hope to complete it by the end of the month.  I guess I'll have to ignore those pretty spring  fabrics sitting on my sewing table for a few more days.

I have been thoroughly enjoying The Child From the Sea by Elizabeth Goudge.  This historical fiction engrosses us in the story of Lucy Walter and her relationship with King Charles II.  I have such a difficult time putting this book down at night, sometimes reading past midnight; it is just that good!

Joining with Ginny today.

  1. You knit very nicely! I am in the mood to spring house clean here, even though it is only about 30 degrees here today in Minneapolis.

  4. Oh mine has too Emily, for once I have a little stash of yarn waiting for me. I've even bought a drop spindle and piece of fleece. Goodness know when I thought I'd have time to use it. You do so much you are an inspiration. Your book sounds fascinating...It must be good to keep you up reading so late.I'm so interested with history at the moment especially with the re-burial of Richard III yesterday.
    Happy weekend.

    1. I just read an article about the reburial of Richard III...so interesting. I am fascinated by English history. We weren't even a country yet when Richard III died.
I hope you find time to use your drop spindle soon...you have been so busy iwith your new home the past few months. Hubby gave one to me for Christmas along with a few pieces of fleece, and I still haven't found the time to use them...someday.

    2. The finding of his body, fired up by one woman Philipa Langley;s determination to find it has been fascinating.
That's a coincidence about the spindle ...we'll be able to compare notes when we eventually get started...
      Take care,

I've just read your comment below about The White Queen. Hannah's boyfriend just lent it to Ahmad last weekend. I must ask to borrow once he's read it.

  5. I am loving historical fiction at the moment too. I am just about to start a book by Philippa Gregory set in the 1400s. I read The Children of the New Forest as a child which is set at a similar time to the book you are reading, I loved it (it's a children's book, I think).

I get what you say about knitting in the winter and sewing in the summer that is me too!

    1. I love Philippa Gregory's novels. Which one are you reading? Is it The White Queen? I read that one about a year ago and really enjoyed it.

  6. Thanks for the book recommendation, I like historical fiction so will go and look at this one. And that blue looks lovely, your weather doesn't appear to be too Springlike yet so I'm sure there'll be plenty of time for warm clothing still!
