Memorial Day

I woke yesterday to the sun streaming through my bedroom window.  What a pleasant surprise!  We had gotten up to rain and gloomy skies for over a week, and, although the air was breezy and cool, the sun felt warm on our faces. The wind helped to dry things out after all the rain. My vegetable garden was still too wet for any planting, but it gave me a chance to work in my flower gardens, which is really my preferred type of gardening.

 Remember the standing water in this flower bed? Thankfully it all dried up, and I was able to mulch around the newly planted flowers.

My great-grandmother's wild rose bushes (transplanted to my garden) got some tender-loving-care today too.

I planted some pansies that I picked up on sale at the Nursery last week.

Hung the hammock...

Brought out the court-yard furniture...

And finally mowed the lawn-turned-hay-field.  Front Forty Farm is starting to perk up after it's week of dreary weather.

The Littles loved the sun and fresh air today too.  They spent most of the day outside, riding bikes, throwing rocks on the lawn (ones that I just raked off the lawn), enjoying a picnic on the grass, and getting wet in the puddles left from last week's rain.  By supper time the youngest ones were quite tired...one fell asleep on the couch, and the others were in bed and already dozing by 7:30.

I also did some work on my blog.  Some of you may have noticed that I changed my header.  I wasn't happy with the first one; I had quickly put it together when I made the blog, and I wanted to change it to something...softer and more subtle, with a hint of vintage.  What do you think?  I still have some tweaking to do on my blog...the fonts, colors, placement of gadgets...but I'm still learning, so don't be alarmed if you see something funky happen for a bit; it's a work in progress.
