I'm sorry about the quality of the pictures; my camera doesn't do so well taking indoor photos...especially when it's a gray day. I couldn't wait, though, to share this little sneak peak of my library.
The windows are my favorite part of the room. I have dreamed about these French push out windows for years, and I can't believe they are finally a reality. They are handmade from lumber Hubby milled himself. The craftsmanship of these lovely windows is breath-taking, right down to the hardware used to keep them open and closed. They are actually more beautiful than the ones in my dreams.
One of the windows looks into the kitchen instead of outside.
This one is not a newly handmade window; it is an old window that we purchased at an architectural salvage place a few years ago. We went for the purpose of buying doors for our barn, but I found this little gem stashed in a corner covered in cobwebs and dust. I knew I had to have it. I can't remember exactly how much we paid for it, but I know it was less than $20. It sat in our barn until a few months ago when Hubby pulled it out, repaired the glass, sanded, painted and installed it into its new home in the wall between my kitchen and new library. This darling little window was the inspiration for the other push out windows in the addition.
We were even able to keep its old hardware.
The next best thing in this room is the dark, library floor. Here's a little peak...it's beautiful! It's exactly what I envisioned when planning this room.
To me, it really does have the feel of a time-worn library floor.
And what library is complete without the bookshelves?
And, of course, a light for reading all of those glorious book.
So...there you have it, a sneak peek of my library. I can't wait to show you the finished product. I may have to employ my daughter, though, to take the pictures...she and her camera do a much nicer job than I do with my little point and shoot. I hope you all come back to see more of our new addition. The next room is almost ready to be revealed. Thanks for stopping by. Have a great night!

ReplyDeleteOh my goodness, the craftsmanship of the shelves and crown moulding is fantastic! This is going to be an incredible room!
ReplyDeleteThanks for your lovely comments on my new room. Reading them makes the time put into sharing well worth it. :)
ReplyDeleteEverything is so authentic looking and so exquisite. How fun! You can make your own history for your new house.
ReplyDeleteThose windows are art! Well, the entire room, the shelves, the trim work, the floor, you have done an incredible job, I love it!
ReplyDeleteThis is so pretty! I love that you hung all the bird feeders outside the windows too. What a wonderful place to sit and read. I have a kindle, but I still prefer an actual book. :)
ReplyDeleteIs there a nice way to say I am so jealous. I really need a room just like this. Just excellent work.
ReplyDeleteno wonder you are excited! :)
ReplyDeleteMy "someday" house will include a dedicated library...yours is beautiful! I love that you want your kids to appreciate books. There is nothing like the feel and smell of well-loved books! I may or may not be addicted to buying old, old books...I use my kids as an excuse to buy hardcovers (because they last longer) and the old, old books are even better because, well, they just don't make them like they used to!

ReplyDeleteEverything looks great, Emily! Windows are a crucial part of the house since they help in setting the ambiance and brightness of a house. Having large windows in your room will benefit you in a lot of ways as well, from letting the light and wind inside to having a good view outside. I can't wait until everything is finished in your house. Thanks for sharing! :)

I agree with Willene. Large windows help a lot in illuminating your house. However, it can also mean excessive sunlight and heat that can pass through your house. I just hope that these windows are properly insulated to ensure energy efficiency. Is the house construction already done? I'm looking forward in seeing your house tour. :)
