Updating a Vintage Fan

I haven't forgotten about the the laundry room reveal; I'm just waiting on a few loose ends to be tied up.  The sink and tub still need plumbing and faucets hooked up to them, a piece of trim should be applied to the counter, a shelf is waiting to be hung, and the windows grills are still not in place.  I was hoping to have this completed weeks ago, but you know how do-it-yourself construction goes...usually once the room is livable (or workable) it sinks to the bottom of the priorities list.  I think a "Honey Do" list posted to the fridge may be in order...what do you think?  This is an urgent matter...I have friends in blog land that are waiting for this reveal; it isn't fair to keep them waiting...(wink wink)!

Well, I came up with a little something to share with you while we wait.  A few months ago when Hubby and I were cleaning out the attic space so it could be turned into a kid's bedroom, I found a vintage fan that I had picked up at a yard sale.  I had plans for it, but I never got around to them, and the fan was brought to the attic.  New Found Treasure! After wiping off the layers of dust and cobwebs, I found the fan to be in excellent condition for its age.  I even plugged it in and found that it actually works like a charm.  Now mind you, I have no intention of using this fan for its original intended use; its sole purpose is to add a punch of color and design to my new room, eye candy, if you will.  Not to  mention, the metal blades, open grill work, little hands and fingers....yikes...I can't even think about it.
So I pulled out my trusty sand paper and can of spray paint and went to work. This is the final result.

I am so happy with the way it turned out!  I love the color and how the the red center pops against the new aqua blades.  It is sitting in the corner of my new laundry room, patiently waiting for for the rest of the room to be complete, patiently waiting for that total room reveal that I keep talking about. Someday, my friends, someday...

  7. The fun thing about painting an old fan is that it's not hard to change the color if you don't like or get bored with the color you started with. :)

  20. I have a fan just like this one that just came out of "storage" (in the basement) to grace our screened porch! It has a sort of bronze finish that I kind'a like, but I have to admit...I've thought about painting it teal, and here's yours, so now I get to see what it'll look like if I take the plunge! It's beautiful!! ~Zuni
