Thrifty Treasures #6

Happy Independence Day!!!  I hope all of you are enjoying your 4th of July celebrations.  We are keeping it low key, yet festive, here at Front Forty Farm. Our three oldest children have gone to spend the holiday weekend at the family camp with their cousins...it's a perfect day for being on the water, 90 degrees with high humidity.  The rest of the Littles are home with mom and dad, spending lots of time in their little kiddie pool and playing with some goodies Daddy brought home from the grocery store this morning.
We will feast on grilled hamburgers and watermelon for supper then enjoy sparklers, a camp fire and smores.  After the Littles are tucked into bed with stories and a goodnight kiss, Mommy and Daddy will watch a movie (if the two of us can stay awake that long).

Traditionally, the colors red, white and blue signify the 4th of July, but yellow seems to be the color that comes to mind when I think of July.  Yes, yellow is the color of the month...almost every flower blooming in my garden is some shade of yellow with a few posies throwing in hints of orange.  Even the butterflies are orange and yellow.
Thank-you, Hubby, for taking these lovely butterfly photos for me.

Isn't this one just amazing!?!?
Oh, look, even my thrifted, nesting bowls are orange and yellow.

I was so excited when I laid my eyes on this set of enameled nesting bowls at the Goodwill, $1.99 for all three. I love the vintage floral pattern and the fact that it matches the flowers blooming in my garden right now.

Oxeye Daisies

Evening Primroses

Day Lilies

Everywhere I look something yellow is blooming. Even this succulent in my rock garden has yellow flowers.
So, naturally, when it came time to choose a color for my pair of vintage, metal, outdoor chairs...
...I chose sunny yellow.
I looked for years for vintage, metal chairs like these, but they were more than my budget could afford, usually $50.00 or more a piece, even in shabbier condition than these.  They were not easy to find, but one day Hubby and I discovered three of them...all the same day at different junk shops and yard sales.  We purchased this pair for $30.00, and this chair (remember it from this post?) for $5.00.
After some vigorous sanding and three coats of paint, my chairs look almost as good as new.  I just love the new sunny yellow color!

  1. My husband just commented a couple of days ago about how much he liked this vintage style of chair because his grandmother had them in her backyard. Great find, and I love the yellow!

  3. Oh you're so lucky to find them for good affordable prices, in pretty good shape considering. Target used to have them awhile back but not exactly affordable for some of us.
I love the happy bright yellow. It's perfect for your new/old chairs. I think many people can remember these chairs at their grandparents or parents homes. Why didn't I take the ones my parents had when my Mom was breaking up house keeping in her home in Tucson? Doggone it.
I'm sure you'll really enjoy those chairs. Just don't sit down on one if it's been in the sun, ouch. Happy summer with your wonderful family on your gorgeous farm.
