Starting Another Quilt

We  were greeted with our first snow fall on Sunday morning; it was just a dusting, and, although it had all disappeared by lunch time, it still goes down in the books as the first snowfall of the season. The rest of day remained cold, wet, and drizzly, perfect weather for a cup of tea and sewing.  We turned a little corner of our new laundry room into a sewing studio for me, and I couldn't be more excited about it (I know, I know...I keep promising a final reveal of the new room, but I'm still waiting on some shelving to be hung. Soon, very soon, I hope!).  Having a space of my own is wonderful.  I can walk in and start sewing, and I can leave what I am doing just as it is.  I no longer have to set up at the kitchen table and then take down and put away everything as soon as meal time comes along.  I now have a sewing room.  Did I say how delighted I am? The radiators were just hooked up this past week and the storm windows were installed, so the room is now toasty warm, just in time since the cold weather is definitely here to stay.

After church and a lovely lunch, the babies settled down for naps, the older girls left to visit friends, the boys played with their Legos, Hubby hunkered in with a book, and I went to my new sewing room.  The giant star quilt that I started a few weeks ago is almost complete.  I generally try to make a habit of finishing one project before starting another; but wanting to take advantage of some time when all the kids were occupied, especially one little girl in particular, I started another quilt.

The fabrics are some of my little one's favorites, but the matryoshka doll fabric is definitely a favorite of mine. I have always liked the little Russian stacking dolls and keep my eyes open for them when shopping at antique shops or thrift stores.   I could not pass up this fabric when I saw it. I'm using this tutorial for a Simple Stripes Quilt, and it is going together quite quickly.   Since I have a number of gifts on my Christmas sewing list, I am appreciating the items that work up in a small amount of time.  Some more fabric arrived in the mail last week, and I am looking forward to lots of sewing projects the next couple of weeks.

Thank you for stopping by my little corner today.  I am always thrilled and encouraged by the thoughtful comments that you leave.

  2. I love the fabric choices! I haven't ever made a quilt, but it is something that I keep putting on my "to learn" list every year. Maybe after the holidays I will finally start one!
