Rainy Day Sewing

It is cold, wet, and dreary here at Front Forty Farm, and the weather pattern is forecasted to stay this way well into next week.  Everything is turning green; the flowers are blossoming; the birds are singing; everything is calling me outside...except for the rain.  On Saturday I did try to brave the weather.  I donned my raincoat and rubber boots and headed to the squash garden to do some prep for planting.  The weeds are coming up quickly, and I know with all the rain, they will grow and multiply very quickly like they did last year.  Weeds are very easy to pull when the ground is wet, so I thought it was a perfect opportunity to tackle them.  I wasn't out very long, however, before I was drenched; the rain soaked through my raincoat, dripped down into my boots, and even found a way inside my rubber gloves.  I gave up and came in, deciding I would have to settle for a cup of tea and inside projects.

I finished a dress I started a few months ago for Little #9, using one of my new Cirtronille patterns, Solveig. I figured with the cool, rainy weather we are having Little #9 could get some immediate use from this little cotton dress with long sleeves.  She may even want the extra layer warmth of her In Threes sweater.  I also worked on some summer tops for her, using my Marie pattern.  I just have to choose a button for each.  The buttons I am leaning towards are from a thrifted dress that I purchased for the buttons only; they are so bright and cheery, and I love the floral design imprinted on them.  I have pile of mending and alterations that I should have been working on, but creating new is always more fun.  With so much rain in our forecast, I'm sure my sewing room will see much more of me in the coming weeks.

I hope you all had a lovely weekend, and I want to thank all of you who stopped by for my "Moment", leaving such sweet comments.  I truly appreciate each one and read them many times over.

  1. They are lovely what gorgeous patterns. I am a bit hesitant to try a pattern again after my last disaster but I do keep seeing the citronille patterns and they do look lovely are they easy to follow? Are these two patterns with raglan shaped arms?

I love your button stash what a good idea to buy clothing for the buttons, never thought of doing that!

  2. Thanks for stopping by. The two tops (Marie pattern) are raglan style sleeves, but the yellow dress is not. I found the Citronille patterns to be very easy to follow. One of them I was able to buy in English, but the other is in French. I followed the illustrations on the one written in French without much trouble. The Marie pattern is very simple...it can be made into a top or lengthened for a dress...very good for a beginner. Solveig (the yellow dress) is a tad more involved, not difficult, but just a little more to it. Another very simple Citronille pattern is Suzanne, and I think it comes in English as well. It's one of my favorites. I definitely recommend giving the Citronille patterns a try.

  3. It's a shame about the weather, I'm glad that you had some nice in-door projects to get on with. I so miss making little dresses. I love the look of the Citronella patterns, they almost look like cut-out doll patterns.
They all look gorgeous, especially the middle two...just because they are so tiny.
    Happy sewing days.

  5. Beautiful tops and patterns, made even lovelier by the fabrics and colours you choose, which puts your own unique stamp on them.

It's cold and grey here today - as soon as we get used to the sun it vanishes! x

You are truly an inspiration to me!!! : ) Have a beautiful day and I hope the rain clears up soon for you. I think we're about to start a couple of days of rain here in New York. xo
